Empowering education through exploration
Founded by children’s author Shirley Husband and travel expert Linda Hill Miller, Kaleido’s Adventures aims to address challenges that have emerged for children in recent years—from heightened anxieties to a lack of real-world experience. Children now access all the information they need through the internet but don’t retain what they’ve learned as well as they would have if they had read it in a book or experienced it for themselves.
We partner with the travel industry to help children learn about the world in a unique way. Through Kaleido, who has hatched from a rock on a Scottish beach, they will learn through his adventures with his adopted family, Auntie Turtle and Petra. He will travel the world and record his experiences on his YouTube channel, and we will provide online and offline resources to help with activities that help your pupils have fun in and out of the classroom!
What we offer to schools:
Interactive school visits
Why not invite Kaleido into your classroom? We have an 80cm rod puppet and two adorable maquettes that bring him to life. Perfect for children aged 4-9, our FREE visits are lots of fun and designed to deliver a greater understanding of the world. Stories and activities are designed to mesh with curricular activities in literacy, numeracy, language, technologies, social studies, health and wellbeing and expressive arts.
Customisable educational content
As a teacher, you can now access a growing bank of digital resources on our website that are tailored to enhance your pupils’ learning. From world quizzes that challenge their young minds to engaging videos that showcase global diversity and Kaleido’s informative Map of the World, our online platform supports classroom activities and remote learning alike.
Kaleido’s educational impact:
Enhancing classroom engagement
Through storytelling and interactive learning, Kaleido will help children grasp complex curricular concepts through:
- creative writing and the art of puppetry
- information handling
- travel planning
- budgeting and currency
- foods and how they are grown and prepared
- languages and ways to communicate
- learning resourcefulness and resilience through travel stories
- an appreciation of different landmarks, cultures and changing weather patterns
- how countries and travel companies are addressing their carbon footprint
Supporting emotional and social learning
One of the primary reasons we created Kaleido’s Adventures was to address young children’s anxieties about the unknown. We create confidence, a sense of adventure, and curiosity while providing a healthy perspective on the world.
Building global citizens
Our programs will introduce your pupils to various languages, traditions, and customs, preparing them to interact knowledgeably and respectfully with diverse cultures at home and abroad.
Case study: Glasgow Airport adventure
Discover how a day with Kaleido at Glasgow Airport turned into a fun-filled educational journey. From learning how to check in and what a passport is for to exploring the excitement of boarding a plane and trying some duty-free shopping, Kaleido made travel concepts easy to understand. This video, to be released in September, highlights our travel partners, such as Glasgow Airport, Thomsons, Tui, Logan Air, and more.
