Welcome to Mexico!
Hola! Welcome to Mexico, a country full of colours, exciting stories, and places to explore! The capital city is Mexico City. It’s huge and has a big square called Zócalo, where local people meet and celebrate.
About Mexico
Mexico is like a big treasure chest that’s been filled up over thousands of years. Long ago, great civilisations like the Maya and the Aztecs built big pyramids here, just like the ones you’ve seen in your storybooks! Today, Mexico is a mix of old traditions and new ways, making it a very interesting place.
Mexico’s geography
Mexico has all kinds of places to see—from hot deserts in the north to jungly rainforests in the south and beautiful beaches where the ocean sparkles under the sun. There are also tall mountains called the Sierra Madre and mysterious caves with underground pools called cenotes.
Interesting animals
Mexico is home to some really cool animals. Have you ever seen a butterfly fly really, really far? The monarch butterfly flies all the way to Mexico every year! And there’s a very strange but cute water creature called the axolotl, which looks a bit like a smiling fish with feet!
What makes Mexico super interesting
Did you know Mexicans celebrate a holiday called the Day of the Dead? People remember their loved ones with bright flowers, delicious foods, and colourful skeletons that aren’t scary at all. Mexico was also the home of the famous artist Frieda Kahlo and you can see mariachi music performances, where musicians dress up in fancy outfits and play songs that make you want to dance!
Where people live
In Mexico, ordinary people live in big, bustling cities, quiet little towns, and everywhere in between. They love being together as families and have big gatherings with lots of music, food, and laughter.
Language
People in Mexico mostly speak Spanish. They say “Hola” for Hello, “Gracias” for Thank You, and “Por favor” for Please. It’s fun to try speaking another language – give it a go like Kaleido!
Food
Mexican food is yummy and full of flavours. Have you tried tacos? They’re like little folded pancakes filled with all sorts of tasty things. There’s also a dish called enchiladas, and you could try guacamole—it’s made with mashed-up avocados, which are bright green and really good for you!
Interesting things to see and do
You can visit the ancient pyramids at Teotihuacan or walk down the colourful streets of a town called San Miguel de Allende. If your family prefers all-inclusive holidays, you can stay safely at beaches like Cancun, where the sand is soft, and the water is perfect for swimming every day!
