Welcome to Wales!
Hello! Let’s go on an adventure to Wales, a land of mighty castles, green valleys, and legends filled with dragons!
About Wales
Wales is a small country in the United Kingdom, known for its coastline, national parks, and rich history. Wales has its own language and culture, which is different to the rest of the UK. Long ago, brave Celtic warriors lived here, and you can still hear their stories. Wales used to have lots of mines, especially coal mines, where ordinary people worked. There are lots of farms where you’ll see sheep and cows.
Wales’ geography
Wales is famous for beautiful landscapes, from hills and valleys used for farming to high mountains in Snowdonia, where you can see all the way across the sea on a clear day. It also has lovely beaches and hidden coves along its coast, perfect for playing pirates and exploring!
What makes Wales super interesting
For its size, Wales has more ancient castles than anywhere else in the world! People also love the Welsh legends of King Arthur and mythical dragons. Every year, Wales hosts a festival called the Eisteddfod, which celebrates Welsh music, books and art.
Where people live
People in Wales live in cosy little towns and villages, often surrounded by green fields and forests. There are also big, bustling cities like Cardiff, the capital, where you can explore lots of museums and shops.
Language
Welsh is spoken here, along with English. It’s a very old and beautiful language. You might hear “Hello” as “Helo” and “Thank you” as “Diolch” in Welsh. Other common phrases include “Good morning” as “Bore da” and “Goodbye” as “Hwyl fawr.”
Food
Welsh food is so yummy. You can try Welsh cakes, a sweet, scone-like treat cooked on a griddle, and bara brith, a fruity tea loaf. Wales is famous for its lamb and cheeses too.
Interesting things to see and do
You can climb up the mountains in Snowdonia with a picnic, explore big, old castles like Caernarfon, or visit the Big Pit National Coal Museum to learn all about mining. Listening to a Welsh choir sing is so lovely – music is a big part of Welsh culture!
